1. CUT TO: High Angle LS - ENTIRE KITCHEN

David and his father sit at the kitchen table.

David’s father is studying a basketball play book intensely.

David’s mother is quickly clearing the remains of the birthday party.

David has opened the packaging of his new phone and is reading through the accompanying materials.

2. 2S - DAVID AND FATHER

DAVID

This is awesome.  There are over 500 million applications you can buy.

David’s father does not look up.  David’s mother leaves the kitchen.

DAVID

Dad?

3. CU - FATHER

David’s father does not look up.  He continues to study the play book.

FATHER

Yeah?

DAVID

Thanks for the phone.

FATHER

You’re welcome kiddo.

4. 2S - DAVID AND FATHER

David’s father reads a moment longer, takes off his glasses and calls into the living room.

FATHER

Tommy?  Tommy did you run the full court zone at captain’s practice?

There is no answer from the living room.  David’s father starts reading again.

FATHER

If we don’t create some turnovers we don’t stand a chance.

5. MS – DAVID

David continues to study the phone’s instructions.

DAVID

Dad?  Do you think we could set up my phone?

FATHER

Tonight?  Your brother and I have a game.

6. 2S – DAVID AND FATHER

DAVID

I know.  But I thought we could set it up together.

FATHER

I can’t tonight kiddo.  This game is important.  Why don’t you call your friend?  What’s his name?  Lewis?  He seems like a little techie.

7. CU – DAVID

David looks down.

DAVID

Yeah . . . he’s pretty good at stuff like this.

8. High Angle LS – ENTIRE KITCHEN

A moment passes.  David reads the phone’s instructions and his father reads the play book.

DAVID

I bet a phone like this could help you coach.

9. CU - FATHER

David’s father looks up and takes off his glasses.

FATHER

And how would a phone do that?

10. MS - DAVID

DAVID

With an application.  You could plug in a situation and it would spit out a play.

11. OS – FATHER

David’s father stands up and walks back into the living room.

FATHER

(from the living room)

Tommy?  Tommy we’re leaving.  Coach can’t be late.  Sets a bad example.

David’s father steps back into the kitchen

FATHER

Kiddo, basketball is not that simple.  It’s more than just formulas.

12. MS - DAVID

DAVID

Well, it could help you keep track of statistics.  You could even keep notes about opponents on it.

13. CU - FATHER

FATHER

(starting to look interested)

I guess for that kind of thing it could be helpful.  I wonder if I could use something like that during . . .

14. Eye-Level LS – PANNING WITH TOMMY

Tommy enters the kitchen eating a banana and putting on a jacket over his basketball uniform.

TOMMY

I’ll be in the car dad.

(to David)

See ya punk.

Tommy crosses the kitchen and leaves through the back door.

David’s father quickly grabs his own coat and starts across the kitchen.

FATHER

(on the way out)

I gotta run.  Happy birthday kiddo.  Good luck with the phone.

David’s Father closes the door behind him.
